The Bs/md Programme
GEMS (Graded English Medium School) collaborated with Angeles University Foundation (AUF), the Philippines in 2008 to offer an accelerated Bachelor of Science (BS) to Nepalese students or any international students who have only two years of education in Science after the SLC or tenth grade in order to enable them to study the remaining units (92) of BS that is generally completed in two years. However, a fast track option is also available which enables students to complete the entire course in one and half years. Once students complete BS, they become eligible to enter the AUF Medical College for Doctor of Medicine (MD).
BS (92 units) is divided into three semesters, each of which will be of six months. Out of three semesters, classes for two semesters are held at GEMS whereas the final semester is pursued at AUF. Students are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science by AUF upon successful completion of BS, and they will continue their studies with the College of Medicine at AUF for MD which is a four-year degree followed by one year internship in different hospitals of the Philippines including the AUF Medical Centre. Thus, the total duration of the BS/MD programme spans five and a half years plus one year of internship.
Students, who enroll at GEMS for BS, will eventually continue their studies for MD at AUF, the Philippines. Hence, it is named as BS/MD programme, which has been endorsed by CHED (Commission on Higher Education), an authorized body of the government of the Philippines.
